Project Information
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Development Program

As the regional economy continues to grow, one of the major challenges has been to expand and modernize Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to meet the increasing demand for air travel. Therefore, to keep pace with this phenomenal growth, Hartsfield-Jackson is undergoing a multi-billion dollar capital improvement project. It is the largest public works project in the history of the state of Georgia. This Program will address the challenges we face entering a new millennium and will take Hartsfield-Jackson well into the 21st Century.

    Consolidated Rental Car Facility (CONRAC)

This facility is designed to serve as a single area in which all rental car companies serving the airport are stationed. Located across Interstate 85 from the airport, an automated people mover system will transport passengers from the airport to the facility containing approximately 8,700 ready and return spaces.

    Central Passenger Terminal Complex (CPTC)

The Central Passenger Terminal Complex will be enhanced to accommodate the rising number of travelers passing through Hartsfield-Jackson. Improvements will include upgrades to curbside services, security checkpoints, ticket counters, interior finishes, concessions, baggage, make-up facilities, baggage claim areas, vertical transportation, moving sidewalks and expansion of existing concourses.

Maynard Holbrook Jackson, Jr. International Terminal (MHJIT)

The new International Terminal and Concourse will provide 10 additional passenger gates that can also be utilized for domestic operations during non-peak hours. The project will provide upgrades to the Airport’s international passenger service and support facilities, including ticketing, baggage handling, hold rooms, concessions, duty free shops, and other traveler comforts. The new facility will also feature an additional Bureau of Customs and Border Protection facility, an in-line baggage screening system, and an automated people mover system extension.

Fifth Runway “The Most Important Runway in America”

This 9,000 square foot runway has had a significant effect on Hartsfield-Jackson operations since its grand opening in Spring 2006. Touted as “the most important runway in America”, Runway 10-28 has handled nearly 100,000 total takeoffs and landings in just the first year. The opening of the Fifth Runway and the accompanying FAA Air Traffic Control Tower is a pivotal moment in the airport’s history.
